How many days
One day for the park; two days to hike and see the crater also at night. The Punaluʻu beach fits into the trip to or from Kona.
When to go
All year. The altitude makes the climate cooler than the coast, with nights between 10 °C and 15 °C, and frequent rain. Bring a jacket at any time of year.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
Yes. The park is large and buses have few departures. Inside the park, roads lead to viewpoints and trails. Drive on the right.
