About Botanica Wichita
Botanica, Wichita’s botanical garden, sits on the banks of the Arkansas River next to the Old Cowtown Museum. It opened in 1987 and comprises about thirty themed gardens in just over 7 hectares, with thousands of plant species.
The gardens range from roses and water plants to the wildflowers of the Kansas prairies, with a Japanese garden, a shade garden and a butterfly garden, where butterflies often appear in summer. The children’s garden has a maze, water play features, a treehouse and a stream.
At year’s end the garden hosts a nighttime festival of lights. In spring, bulbs bloom in April and May; in summer, the water gardens and roses are highlights. There is a café and a shop at the entrance.
