About Greyhound Hall of Fame Museum

Abilene bills itself as the greyhound capital of the world: the region has breeders, and the national registry for racing greyhounds is located near the city. The Greyhound Hall of Fame opened in 1973, across the street from the Eisenhower complex, to tell the story of the breed and the races.

Exhibits cover hunting dogs of ancient Egypt and medieval Europe to the arrival of greyhounds in Kansas, where farmers used them to control coyotes and hares. There are photos, trophies, collars and a hall of racing champions, as well as information about adopting retired greyhounds.

At the entrance, one or two retired greyhounds welcome visitors and can be petted. There is no admission fee; donations help support the museum, which is open Wednesday through Sunday.
