About Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library, Museum and Boyhood Home
The Eisenhower presidential complex covers about 9 hectares in the neighborhood where Dwight Eisenhower grew up in Abilene. It is administered by the National Archives and includes the museum, the research library, the visitor center, the childhood home and the Place of Meditation, a chapel where Eisenhower, his wife Mamie, and the couple’s first son are buried.
The museum covers his life from Kansas to the presidency: a modest childhood, his military career, his command of Allied forces at the Normandy invasion in 1944, and his two terms in the White House from 1953 to 1961. There are uniforms, weapons, cars, official gifts and documents. The library holds millions of pages of records and has a gallery for temporary exhibitions.
The small wooden house where the family lived from 1898 to 1946 offers short guided tours with a separate ticket. The museum and the house are open Tuesday through Sunday, and the complex’s gardens are open every day.
