Louisville – Kentucky Destination Louisville and the Bourbon Trail
How to get there
-
Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) 8 km
Approximate distances. Check flights and bus, train or boat schedules before you travel.
SDF Airport is about 8 km south of downtown, served by taxis, ride‑hail apps, and buses. Interstates I-64, I-65 and I-71 meet in the city; it’s roughly a two-and-a-half-hour drive to Nashville and to Cincinnati.
How many days
Two days cover Churchill Downs, Main Street and the riverfront. A third day lets you visit a distillery or continue on to Bardstown.
When to go
Spring and autumn are the most pleasant seasons. In the two weeks before the first Saturday in May, the Kentucky Derby Festival fills the city. Summer is humid and climbs above 30 °C; winter is cold, with days near 0 °C.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
In downtown, no: Main Street, the Ali Center and the riverfront are walkable. For Churchill Downs, about 7 km away, use a taxi or ride‑hail app. For inland distilleries, a car or organized tour is necessary. Drive on the right.
