Montgomery – Alabama Destination Birmingham, Montgomery and Selma Capital

How to get there

  • Montgomery Regional Airport (MGM) 15 km

Approximate distances. Check flights and bus, train or boat schedules before you travel.

Montgomery Airport (MGM) is about 15 km southwest of downtown. By car, the city is roughly 145 km from Birmingham via I-65 and about 260 km from Atlanta via I-85.

How many days

A full day for the Legacy Museum, the memorial, and the sculpture park. With two days, you can also fit the Rosa Parks Museum, the capitol, and Dexter Avenue Baptist Church.

When to go

Spring and fall are the best seasons. In summer, the humid heat makes outdoor areas of the memorial and sculpture park uncomfortable: visit early.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

Downtown, the capitol, and the Rosa Parks Museum are walkable. Shuttles run from the Legacy Museum to the memorial and boats go to the sculpture park. A car is needed to get there and to continue on to Selma.
