About Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge

Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge sits in the hills about 11 km south of Eureka Springs. It is a sanctuary for big cats and other animals rescued from irregular captive situations such as circuses, private breeders and homes where they were kept as pets.

The refuge houses dozens of tigers, lions, leopards, cougars and bears in spacious enclosures with woodland, viewable from walkways and paths. The animals are not bred nor displayed in shows.

Guided tours, by open vehicle or on foot, tell each animal’s story and explain the sanctuary’s work and laws on wild animal ownership. There are also self-guided walks in part of the area.

The refuge is run by a nonprofit organization, funded by admission and donations.
