Giza – Giza Destination Cairo and Giza Capital

How to get there

  • Sphinx International Airport (SPX) Giza · 25 km
  • Estação de Gizé Giza · 10 km

Approximate distances. Check flights and bus, train or boat schedules before you travel.

Sphinx (SPX) is the nearest airport to the plateau, about 25 km away; Cairo International is about 45 km. From downtown Cairo it’s roughly 20 km by road. Metro Line 2 reaches Giza but not the pyramids.

How many days

One day for the pyramids, the Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum; another day for Saqqara, Dahshur and Memphis.

When to go

From October to April, arrive early at the plateau, which has little shade. In summer, visit at opening and leave the museum for midday.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

To get to the plateau, a taxi or rideshare is enough. For Saqqara, Dahshur and Memphis, the most practical option is to hire a driver or a tour.
