About Gharb Soheil
Gharb Soheil is a Nubian village on the west bank of the Nile, south of Aswan center. The mud-brick and brick houses, with domes and walls painted blue, yellow and pink and decorated with designs, lie between the river and the dunes.
The village receives visitors who arrive by boat or car, with handicraft, spice and fabric shops and homes where you can have tea and try Nubian food. Some families keep small crocodiles at home as a curiosity, a local tradition.
Soheil Island, opposite, has rocks with ancient inscriptions, such as the Famine Stela.
On the boat approach the banks have granite rocks, palm trees and Nubian houses, and the trip often returns to town with the sun setting behind the dunes.
