What to expect from São Gabriel da Cachoeira.

São Gabriel da Cachoeira is the town on the upper Rio Negro, in northwest Amazonas, near the border with Colombia and Venezuela. It grew around an 18th‑century Portuguese fort, at a stretch of river rapids. Most residents are indigenous, and the municipality recognizes three indigenous languages as official alongside Portuguese. From the waterfront you can see the Serra do Curicuriari, the Sleeping Beauty.
