Approximate distances. Check flights and bus, train or boat schedules before you travel.

While the bay is navigable, the connection is by regional boats; when ice closes the passage, helicopters make the route. The island has no airstrip for fixed‑wing planes.

How many days

Two or three days allow you to hike to Kuannit, climb Lyngmarksbræen and visit the town and museum.

When to go

From June to September, for the trails, the summer sled and the boats; it is also the season for whales near the coast. In winter there are sled rides departing from town and auroras on clear nights.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

No. There are no roads outside town, and the trails start at the last houses.
