Nuuk – Sermersooq Capital

How to get there

  • Nuuk Mittarfia (GOH) 5 km
  • Porto de Nuuk 2 km

Approximate distances. Check flights and bus, train or boat schedules before you travel.

The airport, about 5 km from the center, has international flights (Denmark, Iceland and, in the summer season, the U.S. east coast) and is the hub of the internal network. For part of the year, passenger ships call at the port, coming from other west-coast towns.

How many days

Allow two days for the old town, the museums and the center. A third day goes to a boat on the fjord, and a fourth to climb one of the hills.

When to go

In summer the nights hardly get dark and boats depart for the fjord. December has only a few hours of light, but winter brings snow for skiing on nearby slopes and, with luck, auroras.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

No. The center and the colonial harbor can be explored on foot, and urban buses and taxis connect the neighborhoods and the airport. There are no roads to other towns.
