About Tasermiut Fjord
The Tasermiut fjord begins near Nanortalik and stretches about 70 km inland to a glacier that descends from the ice cap. On both sides, granite mountains rise almost straight from the water, with vertical walls that are among the most sought-after by climbers in the Arctic, such as Ketil and Ulamertorsuaq.
On the shore, green valleys open between the mountains. In the Qinngua valley there is one of Greenland’s few woodlands, with birches and willows taller than a person—rare in the country.
Boats depart from Nanortalik and travel the fjord on day trips, stopping at beaches and valleys. Those who stay longer camp on the shores, hike through the valleys and take kayak trips.
From August to October, minke whales often appear near the fjord’s entrance. Throughout the summer, the water brings icebergs from the glacier at the head of the fjord.
