Nanortalik is the southernmost town of Greenland, on an island near Cape Farewell, the country’s southern tip. The landscape is of granite mountains, islands and narrow fjords, more similar to the island’s east side than to the green valleys of the rest of the south.
The town was founded in 1770 and moved to its current site in 1830. The old harbour, with colonial houses, became an open-air museum, one of the most complete in the country.
To the northeast, the Tasermiut Fjord stretches about 70 km between vertical cliffs, a destination for climbers from many countries. In the valleys along its shores, such as Qinngua, birches and willows grow, forming one of Greenland’s few woodlands.
Between Nanortalik and Qaqortoq, the island of Uunartoq has hot springs that create a natural pool, visited on boat trips.
This destination brings together 1 city: Nanortalik.
