About Zion Canyon Scenic Drive
Zion Canyon Scenic Drive starts at the junction near the visitor center and follows the main canyon for about 10 km alongside the Virgin River to the Temple of Sinawava, where the cliffs close in. Along the way are the park’s best-known features: the three peaks of the Court of the Patriarchs, the Great White Throne and Angels Landing.
During shuttle season—generally March through November, plus some holiday periods—the road is closed to private vehicles. Park shuttles depart from the visitor center and stop at nine points that serve as trailheads. Outside the season, private cars can drive the route.
Popular stops include Zion Lodge, where the Emerald Pools trail begins, with natural pools and small waterfalls; the Grotto, the start of Angels Landing; Weeping Rock, a dripping wall that sustains hanging fern gardens; and the Temple of Sinawava, where the Riverside Walk leads to The Narrows.
The Pa'rus Trail, flat and paved, follows the river near the visitor center and is the only canyon trail where bicycles and dogs on leash are allowed.
