About Grand Teton National Park

Grand Teton National Park was created in 1929 and protects the Teton Range and part of the Jackson Hole valley. The peaks rise abruptly above the valley, with no foothills; the highest, Grand Teton, reaches 4,199 meters. At the base of the range, a row of glacial lakes—such as Jackson, Jenny and String—reflect the mountains.

Jenny Lake is the most visited spot. A boat crosses the lake to the trailheads for Hidden Falls and the Inspiration Point overlook, and a trail circles the shoreline. South of the park, the wooden barns of Mormon Row, left by Mormon settlers in the early 20th century, appear in many photos of the range, and the Snake River Overlook frames the river winding in front of the peaks.

The valley is home to bison, elk, deer, pronghorn and, in wooded areas, black bears and grizzly bears, which are most often seen early in the morning and late in the afternoon. The park’s main road continues north to Yellowstone.

Entrance is paid, either per vehicle or per person, and international visitors may have to pay an additional fee: check the park’s website.
