About Old Trail Town
Old Trail Town sits on the site where Buffalo Bill and other founders planned the original town of Cody in 1895. Since the 1960s, a regional archaeologist gathered dozens of log buildings from Wyoming and Montana, disassembled and reassembled them along a village street.
Among the buildings is a cabin used by Butch Cassidy’s gang as a mountain hideout, saloons, a school, and hunters’ cabins. Inside are period objects, saddles, wagons, and firearms that show life on the frontier.
Some frontier figures were reburied in the village cemetery, such as scout Jeremiah Johnson, whose life inspired a film. The visit is self-guided on foot.
