About Storm King Art Center

Storm King Art Center was founded in 1960 by Ralph Ogden and Peter Stern, initially as a museum of Hudson River School paintings. Over time it became a site for outdoor sculpture and today occupies about 200 hectares of fields, hills and woods in Mountainville on the west bank of the Hudson, with surrounding mountains as a backdrop.

The collection includes more than a hundred works, many created for the site. Notable pieces include the large red and orange steel structures by Mark di Suvero and Alexander Calder, Isamu Noguchi’s Momo Taro, Andy Goldsworthy’s stone wall that winds among trees and into a pond, and Maya Lin’s Storm King Wavefield, grassy hills shaped like waves.

Visits are on foot along paths and lawns, by rented bicycle or on a shuttle that circulates the grounds. The museum, in a stone house atop a hill, hosts temporary exhibitions.

The park is closed in winter and operates with timed-entry tickets, which often sell out on spring and autumn weekends.
