Burlington – Vermont Destination Stowe and Burlington

How to get there

  • Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport (BTV) South Burlington · 5 km
  • Burlington Union Station 1 km

Approximate distances. Check flights and bus, train or boat schedules before you travel.

The airport (BTV) is in South Burlington, about 5 km from downtown, with local buses and taxis. Union Station, at the foot of Main Street, receives the train from New York. Intercity buses arrive downtown.

How many days

One day is enough for Church Street, Waterfront Park and the sunset on the lake. With two days, you can add the Shelburne Museum and Shelburne Farms to the south.

When to go

From June to September, with days between 22 °C and 28 °C, the waterfront is busy and boats fill the lake. In early October, fall colors reach the surroundings. Winter is long and cold, with many days below −10 °C and the lake sometimes frozen.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

In downtown and on the waterfront, no: distances are short and there are local buses. For Shelburne, about 11 km away, and for Stowe, a car is most practical. Drive on the right.
