Santa Fe – New Mexico Destination Santa Fe and Albuquerque Capital

How to get there

  • Santa Fe Regional Airport (SAF) 15 km
  • Santa Fe Depot 1 km

Approximate distances. Check flights and bus, train or boat schedules before you travel.

About an hour’s drive from Albuquerque airport via I-25. The regional Rail Runner train connects Albuquerque to Santa Fe station, near downtown. Santa Fe Regional Airport (SAF) has flights to some cities in the country.

How many days

Two days allow for the historic center, the main museums and Canyon Road. With three days, there’s time for Museum Hill, with museums of folk and Indigenous art, and a trip to Taos Pueblo.

When to go

From May to October, with pleasant days and the summer art fairs, such as the Indigenous market in August. September and October are clear and dry. In winter it is cold and may snow, and the downtown is decorated with luminarias at year’s end.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

For the downtown area, no: the Plaza, museums, churches and Canyon Road are walkable. A car helps for Museum Hill, Taos and the pueblos.
