Kahului – Hawaii Destination Maui about 160 km from Honolulu

How to get there

  • Kahului Airport (OGG) 3 km
  • Kahului Harbor 2 km

Approximate distances. Check flights and bus, train or boat schedules before you travel.

Kahului Airport (OGG) is about 3 km from town center, with car rentals, taxis and island buses. Cruise ships dock at Kahului Harbor. The island’s main roads start here, heading to the south shore, the west coast, Hana and Haleakalā.

How many days

One day for ʻĪao Valley, Wailuku and the Maui Ocean Center. Haleakalā requires another day, or an early-morning trip for sunrise.

When to go

All year. The isthmus is usually sunny and windy in the afternoon. Between April and October there is less rain, and mornings often have fewer clouds over Haleakalā.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

Yes. The island bus connects Kahului to the main towns but does not reach Haleakalā or ʻĪao Valley. Rentals are at the airport. Drive on the right.
