How to get there

  • Hana Airport (HNM) 5 km
  • Kahului Airport (OGG) Kahului · 84 km

Approximate distances. Check flights and bus, train or boat schedules before you travel.

Along the Road to Hana (36 and 360), about 84 km from Kahului, with more than 50 bridges, many one-lane, and hundreds of curves: at least two and a half hours without stops. The small airport at Hana receives short flights from Kahului.

How many days

A long day, leaving early from Kahului or the north coast, covers the road, Waiʻānapanapa and the village. Staying one night in Hana allows time for Kīpahulu and the Pīpīwai Trail without rushing.

When to go

Year-round; the region is wet and it rains frequently, which keeps the waterfalls flowing. From April to October it usually rains less. After storms, parts of the road and the trails can close.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

Yes. There is no bus to Hana. The road requires attention: at one-lane bridges, yield to cars already crossing. Drive on the right.
