About Negro Leagues Baseball Museum

During segregation, Black players were barred from Major League Baseball and formed their own leagues. The Negro National League was founded in 1920 at a meeting in Kansas City’s Paseo YMCA, two blocks from where the museum now stands.

The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum tells that story from the late 19th century through the 1960s, when the leagues lost strength after integration of the major leagues beginning in 1947. Exhibits show uniforms, photos, posters, films and stories of teams like the Kansas City Monarchs and players such as Satchel Paige, Josh Gibson and Jackie Robinson.

The route ends at the Field of Legends, a scaled-down baseball field with bronze statues of great players in game positions.

The museum shares the building with the American Jazz Museum in the 18th & Vine district.
