Approximate distances. Check flights and bus, train or boat schedules before you travel.
From Juneau, short flights reach Gustavus airport, more frequently in summer, and the state ferry links the communities a few times a week. Private and charter boats also dock at the pier.
How many days
Two days: one for the Glacier Bay boat and another for Bartlett Cove trails, kayaking or whale watching in Icy Strait.
When to go
At the height of summer, when the park boat runs daily, days are long and wildlife is more abundant. May and September have fewer services. In winter the village is isolated and tours stop.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
No. Lodgings usually pick up guests at the airport, and there is transport to Bartlett Cove. Bicycles are common in the village. Drive on the right.
