About Big Dam Bridge
The Big Dam Bridge was built over the Murray dam and lock on the Arkansas River, northwest of downtown Little Rock. At about 1.3 km, it is one of the longest bridges in the United States built exclusively for pedestrians and cyclists.
The deck rises roughly 27 meters above the water, with views of the river, the dam, and on clear days the hills to the west. Long, gentle ramps lead up to the deck on both sides, one in Little Rock and the other in North Little Rock.
The bridge is part of the Arkansas River Trail, a roughly 25 km loop that follows both riverbanks and connects the Big Dam Bridge to downtown, also crossing the pedestrian bridges at the River Market and Clinton Park.
At night, the bridge features colorful lighting.
