About Pea Ridge National Military Park
In March 1862, Union and Confederate troops fought for two days in the fields and hills of Pea Ridge in northwest Arkansas. the Union victory secured control of Missouri for much of the Civil War. The battle was also one of the few in which Native American troops fought alongside the Confederates.
The battlefield is protected as a national military park. The visitor center shows a film and exhibits about the battle, including weapons and uniforms.
An approximately 11 km driving loop passes the main points, with signs and overlooks such as East Overlook, which affords views over much of the terrain. The Elkhorn Tavern, a reconstructed inn on the site of the original, marks the center of the fighting.
There are walking and horseback trails through the fields and woods.
