About Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art
The Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art opened in 2011 by Alice Walton, daughter of Walmart’s founder, in a ravine with springs a few minutes from Bentonville’s town square. Designed by architect Moshe Safdie, the museum is made up of wooden-and-glass pavilions, some forming bridges over two lakes fed by the springs.
The collection covers art of the United States from the colonial period to the present day, with 18th-century portraits, Hudson River School landscapes, and works by artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe, Norman Rockwell, Andy Warhol and Kerry James Marshall. The museum has been expanded, adding new galleries and education spaces.
Around it, about 5 km of trails cross the woods, with outdoor sculptures. One of them houses the Bachman-Wilson House, a house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in New Jersey, dismantled and reconstructed on the museum grounds.
There is no charge for the permanent collection; some temporary exhibitions require tickets.
