How many days
One day for the old town and the castle. With two days, you’ll have time for the basilica of Ptujska Gora and the vineyards of Jeruzalem.
When to go
Spring and early autumn are the mildest times to walk around the center; the grape harvest takes place in September and October. In February, Kurentovanje usually fills the town; book accommodation in advance. Winter is cold, with frequent fog on the plain.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
Not to walk around the town itself, which is explored on foot, nor to reach it from Maribor, which has trains and buses. For Ptujska Gora and Jeruzalem, a car makes things easier: public transport to the villages is scarce.
