About Cleopatra's Spring

Cleopatra’s Spring is about 5 km from Siwa’s center, near Aghurmi hill, amid the palm groves. Water wells up from the bottom of a circular stone pool, clear and overflowing into channels that irrigate the surrounding fields.

Tradition says Queen Cleopatra bathed there, though there is no ancient record of this. The spring is used for bathing by locals and visitors, and there are shaded cafés around it.

It is one of the hundreds of springs in the Siwa oasis that sustain the palm groves and olive trees in the middle of the desert.

The water remains at a pleasant temperature year-round, and early in the morning it is common to see bubbles rising from the bottom where the spring emerges.
