About Grand Egyptian Museum
The Grand Egyptian Museum is about 2 km from the pyramids, on the edge of the Giza plateau, in a large glass-and-stone building with views of them. It is the country’s largest archaeology museum and brings together pieces from all periods of ancient Egypt.
At the entrance a colossal statue of Ramses II welcomes visitors in the atrium. The Grand Staircase rises between dozens of statues of kings and gods to the galleries, from which the pyramids can be seen through the windows.
The Tutankhamun galleries display, for the first time together, the objects found in the pharaoh’s tomb in 1922, such as the golden mask, the chariots, thrones and jewelry. The museum also shows Khufu’s solar boat, recovered from a pit beside the Great Pyramid.
