About National Museum of Egyptian Civilization
The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization is in Fustat, in southern Cairo, on the shore of Ain el-Sira lake. The main gallery follows Egypt’s history in order, from prehistory through the Pharaonic, Greco-Roman, Coptic and Islamic periods, with objects, statues and textiles.
In the basement, the royal mummies hall gathers the mummies of about twenty New Kingdom kings and queens, such as Ramses II, Seti I and Hatshepsut, moved there from the Egyptian Museum in a procession through the streets of Cairo. The mummies are displayed in climate-controlled cases in a low-light environment.
The museum also has a gallery on Egyptian crafts and textiles and a view of the ruins of ancient Fustat, the country’s first Arab capital.
