About El Alamein War Museum

The Military Museum occupies a building at the city entrance, next to the highway. The rooms recount the 1942 battles between the British army and the German and Italian forces, with maps, models, uniforms, documents and soldiers’ belongings.

Tanks, guns and vehicles from the period are displayed in the courtyard. One room is dedicated to Egypt’s role in the war and another to the battle commanders.

The museum helps to understand the memorials spread along the coast.

Exhibit texts are in Arabic and English, and the visit is usually quick, before heading to the memorials.

At the entrance stand monuments honoring soldiers from the various countries that fought in the region.
