About German War Memorial El Alamein
The German Memorial stands on Tel el-Eisa hill, west of El Alamein, overlooking the Mediterranean. It is a stone structure in the form of an octagonal fortress, inaugurated in 1959, where thousands of German soldiers are buried.
In the inner courtyard, an obelisk and walls with the names of the soldiers’ home regions create a space of silence. From the ramparts there are views of the coast and the desert.
It is visited together with the Commonwealth cemetery and the Italian memorial along the same road.
