About Alexandria National Museum
The National Museum of Alexandria is on Fuad Street in the city center, housed in an Italian-style palace from the early 20th century. The rooms, spread over three floors, tell the story of the city and the region.
The basement displays the Pharaonic period; the ground floor covers the Greco-Roman era, with statues, coins and pieces recovered from the eastern harbor; the upper floor presents the Coptic and Islamic periods, with textiles, ceramics and metal objects.
It is a medium-sized museum that helps you understand the city before visiting the archaeological sites.
The palace garden has statues and stone blocks displayed outdoors, and the museum is usually less crowded than the archaeological sites.
The room signs are in Arabic and English.
