About Roman Amphitheatre of Kom el-Dikka
The Kom el-Dikka site is in central Alexandria, near Misr station square. It was discovered in the 1960s during construction work and revealed a Roman and Byzantine neighborhood.
The main monument is a small Roman marble theater with 13 rows of semicircular seating, which may have been used as a music hall or meeting room. Around it are public baths, classrooms of an ancient school and Roman houses with mosaics, such as the Villa of the Birds.
In the garden, blocks and statues recovered from the seabed in front of the city are displayed outdoors.
In summer, the theater sometimes hosts concerts and cultural events; the site is in a quiet garden amid the bustle of the center.
