The city
Araçuaí is the main town of the Middle Jequitinhonha, on the banks of the Araçuaí River, shortly before it meets the Jequitinhonha. It began as a canoe port in the 19th century and became a regional commercial center. It is known for the Coral Trovadores do Vale, the Araçuaí Museum and the Festa do Rosário. It holds the national heat record from November 2023.
