About Somerset Long Bay
Somerset Long Bay is the largest public beach in western Bermuda, a stretch of sand on the northwest coast of Somerset Island, facing the open sea and protected by reefs. The water is usually shallow and calm, which makes it popular with families with children.
Behind the beach there is a park with lawns, trees and a picnic area. Beside it, a nature reserve with a pond and coastal vegetation hosts resident and migratory birds and is cared for by Bermuda’s bird protection society.
Because it is far from the large beaches on the South Shore, Somerset Long Bay tends to have fewer visitors and is mainly used by residents of the west of the island. At dusk, the west-facing shore receives the sunset.
