Who we are
A travel guide to Bermuda.
The Cidade Turismo in Bermuda brings together, parish by parish, what you need to plan the trip: what to do, when to go, how to get there and how to get around the island.
5 destinations 7 parishes 9 cities
Across Cidade Turismo: 50 countries · 78 routes · 850 destinations · 2,087 cities
What the guide covers
The Bermuda guide is being prepared by destinations across the island. In the east, the list includes St. George's and St. David's and the Harrington Sound area, with the caves, the aquarium and Spittal Pond. In the centre, the city of Hamilton and Paget; in the west, the south shore beaches in Warwick and Southampton and the Royal Naval Dockyard, with Somerset.
Each destination gathers the localities in the region, what to do in each one, the attractions with their own pages, when to go and how to get there. Destinations appear on the country page as they are published: while a destination is being prepared, it does not appear on the list.
Parishes and groups
Bermuda is a British Overseas Territory and is divided into nine parishes, created in 1616 and still used in addresses: Sandys, Southampton, Warwick, Paget, Pembroke, Devonshire, Smith's, Hamilton and St. George's. The guide uses the parishes as divisions and groups them into three groups, the same used by the islands' tourism agency: East Parishes, Central Parishes and West Parishes.
The city of Hamilton, the capital, is in the parish of Pembroke, not in the parish of Hamilton, which is in the east around Harrington Sound. The town of St. George's is in the parish of the same name. Place names appear as they are used on the islands, in English; when there is an established form in Portuguese, it is used, such as Bermudas and Jardim Botânico.
How to travel around Bermuda
The islands form an arc of about 35 km, linked by bridges, from the airport in the east to the Royal Naval Dockyard in the west. Visitors cannot rent a standard car: you get around by bus, by ferry, by taxi or with rental electric minicars and scooters. Ferries depart from Hamilton to the Dockyard, Southampton, Paget and Warwick, and in summer they also link the Dockyard to St. George's. You drive on the left, with a maximum speed of 35 km/h.
The time zone is UTC−4, and UTC−3 from March to November. The climate is subtropical: hot, humid summers from May to October, and mild, windy winters from December to March, without severe cold. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November.
History and nature
The town of St. George's, founded in 1612, and the fortifications built to defend it over three centuries have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. The Royal Naval Dockyard in the west was the main base of the British Navy in the Western Atlantic until 1995. The pink-sand beaches, the coral reefs around the islands and the limestone caves complete the landscape.
Why there are no prices
In Bermuda, the guide does not show tour or ticket prices because they change frequently. When there is a guided visit, a scheduled time or a required reservation, such as for the caves, museums and boat tours, the text warns, and the price should be checked before you go.
How the content is made
The information for each place is researched in official sources, such as the tourism agency and the government of Bermuda, the Bermuda National Trust, museums and UNESCO, and is verified before going live.
The pictures in this guide are illustrations based on the real place, not photographs, and may differ from it. Photos sent by travelers appear separately, as travelers' photos.
If you find any information that differs, write to us: fixing it is quicker than it seems.
