About Gibbs Hill Lighthouse
Gibbs Hill Lighthouse sits on one of Bermuda’s highest hills, in Southampton, and was first lit in 1846. The tower, about 36 meters tall, is one of the world’s earliest made of cast iron, with parts manufactured in England and assembled on the island.
The light stands more than 100 meters above sea level and can be seen from a distance by ships and planes. Inside, a staircase of 185 steps, in eight flights, leads to the external gallery.
From the top you can see the Great Sound with its islands, the Royal Naval Dockyard, the South Shore beaches and, on clear days, much of the island. At the base, the former lighthouse keeper’s house operates as a restaurant. The climb is charged separately.
