About Museum of the Desert (Museo del Desierto)
The Museo del Desierto, known as MUDE, is in Las Maravillas park, about 3 km from downtown Saltillo. It is dedicated to the Chihuahua Desert, which covers much of the state, and to the region’s natural history.
The galleries show how the desert landscapes formed, with fossils from the ancient sea that covered the area and dinosaur skeletons found in Coahuila, one of the Mexican states with the most discoveries. There are also displays about the peoples of the desert.
Outdoors, the museum has a cactus and desert plant garden and areas with live regional animals, such as reptiles and birds. Las Maravillas park around it has paths and green areas used by locals on weekends.
