About Museum of the Birds of Mexico
The Museo de las Aves de México occupies a former Jesuit college in downtown Saltillo, a few blocks from the cathedral. It was formed from the collection of naturalist Aldegundo Garza de León and brings together specimens of a large portion of the bird species recorded in Mexico.
The galleries organize birds by habitat, in dioramas that recreate deserts, forests, mountains, coasts and lagoons, and explain migration, song, nests and eggs. There are rooms dedicated to birds of prey and to threatened species.
The museum helps recognize the birds you see on a trip through the country’s north, from desert to highlands. The visit is calm and works well for families with children and for anyone who enjoys birdwatching in nature.
