About Mezquites River
The Mezquites River runs through the Cuatro Ciénegas valley, fed by the springs that form the pools. The water is clear and warm, with a sandy bottom and aquatic plants, and flows between banks of low vegetation in the middle of the desert.
Unlike La Poza Azul and other pools, the Mezquites River has stretches where bathing is allowed, with rest areas, shade and access to the water. You can see small fish swimming around your legs.
The river is on the same road that leads to La Poza Azul and the Gypsum Dunes, and many visitors stop there during the same outing to cool off.
To help preserve the environment, visitors are asked not to enter the water with sunscreen or insect repellent on their skin and to follow the rangers’ instructions.
