About Mina La Dificultad Site Museum and Interpretation Center
La Dificultad Mine is at the entrance to Real del Monte and is recognized from a distance by the tall stone chimney next to the engine house. At the end of the 19th century it housed one of the most powerful steam engines in the country, used to pump water from the shafts.
The site museum and interpretation center shows old photographs, scale models of the galleries, tools and the large shaft machines. The visit explains how silver was extracted and transported and how the English company and later Mexican firms exploited the range.
The stone-and-brick complex forms one of the town’s best-known views, alongside the road that comes from Pachuca.
