About Monumental Clock of Pachuca
The Monumental Clock stands in Plaza de la Independencia, in the heart of Pachuca. It was built for the centenary of Mexico's independence and inaugurated in 1910, with a carved stone structure in neoclassical style and about 40 meters in height.
The clock mechanism came from the same English factory that made the one for Big Ben in London, and the carillon chimes on the hour. On the faces of the tower there are marble female sculptures representing independence, liberty, the constitution and reform.
Around the square are the downtown shopping streets, arcades and cafés, and the city climbs the slopes in colorful houses, with the mountain range in the background. At night the tower is lit up.
