About Túnel de Minería de Durango
The Mining Tunnel runs under Constitución street in downtown Durango and has one of its entrances at the Plaza de Armas. The route was created to tell the history of mining, the activity that gave rise to the city in the 16th century.
Along the tunnel, rooms and scenes show the types of ore found in the state, the tools and extraction techniques—from the colonial period to 20th-century machinery—with mine carts, tracks and miner figures. Visitors walk with mine-style lighting and explanations from guides.
The tour is part of the city-center sightseeing routes, along with the cable car, and is popular with families.
