About Francisco Villa Museum
The Museo Francisco Villa occupies the Zambrano Palace, an late-18th-century mansion built by a wealthy miner, facing Durango’s Plaza de Armas. The building has arcaded courtyards and halls that once served as the state government’s seat.
The museum tells the life of Francisco Villa, born in the state of Durango in 1878, and his role in the Mexican Revolution, with photographs, documents, weapons, clothing, period objects and interactive rooms. One section also shows Villa’s relationship with cinema and the press.
On the stairways and in the halls there are murals about the state’s history. The visit helps explain why Villa is such a present figure in Durango, which names its annual fair after him.
