About Flower Valley Tasiilaq
The Valley of Flowers (Blomsterdalen) begins at the last houses of Tasiilaq and rises into the interior of the island of Ammassalik, following the river that divides the town in two. The path passes the town cemetery and continues along the valley floor to a lake.
In summer the valley is covered in flowering plants: Arctic thyme, bellflowers and Arctic willowherb (niviarsiaq), Greenland’s national flower, with pink petals. In autumn the leaves turn red and yellow.
The walk along the valley floor is easy. Longer trails climb the surrounding mountains, with views of the fjord and the icebergs that pass at the harbor entrance.
In winter the valley is covered in snow and is used for skiing and sled trips.
