About Qeqertarsuaq Church
Qeqertarsuaq’s church has a rare form in Greenland: the plan is octagonal, with a conical roof that resembles an old inkwell. For that reason, locals call it “God’s inkwell” (Vorherres Blækhus, in Danish).
The building is wooden and painted, located in the town center among houses and the bay. Inside, the circular space arranges the pews around the altar.
At services and at Christmas and Easter celebrations it fills with residents; on other days it appears on nearly every town walk.
It goes well with a visit to the museum and the old colonial area, a few steps away.
