About Qaqortoq Museum
Qaqortoq Museum occupies the colony’s old forge, a stone building from 1804 near the old harbor. It is one of the town’s oldest houses, which in the colonial period was called Julianehåb.
The rooms display finds from the region’s Norse farms, Inuit hunting tools and weapons, kayaks, fur clothing and everyday objects from the Danish colony. There is a reconstruction of a turf house and old photographs of the town and the settlements.
Part of the exhibition connects the museum to the Kujataa ruins, like Hvalsey, and helps to understand what you see on the boat trips through the fjords.
The building is on the route between the harbor and the fountain square, and the visit fits into a morning exploring the center on foot.
