About Qaqqarsuaq

Qaqqarsuaq, “the big mountain” in Greenlandic, rises immediately behind Narsaq and reaches about 685 meters. Beside it is Tasiigaaq, lower; both are the town’s most popular hikes.

The path leaves from the outermost houses and gains height over rocky slopes and low vegetation, with no technical sections but a steady ascent. From the summit, the view includes Narsaq on the plain, the fjord with stranded icebergs and, inland, the white line of the ice cap.

Few Greenland towns have the ice cap on the horizon like Narsaq, and it is from the mountain top that it appears most complete.

At the summit, hikers often add a stone to the cairns that mark the peak.
